Our basic web site hosting package comes with 100 MB of space for your web site files and email storage on the server (combined). Additional storage space is available in 100 MB or 1 GB (1000 MB) blocks for a monthly fee, should it be needed.
When a new email account is set up the default limit on storage space on the server is set at 10 MB for each email address. If this should happen, email senders will recieve a message saying that their message couldn't be delivered to you because your email box is full. If you download your email regularly into a program like Outlook then 10 MB is generally enough for the average user. If you use use smarterMail exclusively (through your web browser) and like to keep archives of your messages or don't empty your deleted items folder regularly then this limit can easily be exceeded. The limit can be changed for a particular email account but the overall space limitation is defined by your account (see the question above). For example if your web site is 25MB in size and you have 1 email account then the limit can be set to 75MB for that email account and you will be assured that you won't surpass your overall storage limit. This allows for easier budgeting of monthly costs. If you have questions about this or would like to increase the size of one of your email accounts please contact us.

It is caused due to a general problem with email called "spoofing" where a spammer sends email out using your email address - they don't have access to your account but they send it out from somewhere else and make it look like it came from you by making your email address the "From" address. In this case it looks like they sent out messages FROM you that went TO an email address that didn't exist, so the receiving server sent a message back to you saying that the "To" address didn't exist. There are more details about spoofing here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spoofing and on numerous other sites on the internet. These are generally harmless, but are definitely annoying. They are sometimes, but not always, triggered by a virus on your computer, so it would be a good idea to make sure you have antivirus software installed and up to date. Unfortunately there isn't much else we can do to stop this from happening.
