Outgoing Mail Server (smtp) Settings

Depending on the internet service provider (ISP) that you use you may need to make some changes to the outgoing email server (smtp) when you set up your email accounts in your email program (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.). The default (mail.YOURDOMAIN.com/ca) won't work in these situations. All outgoing email must be routed through the ISP's email server. Follow the instructions below for the particular ISP that you use.

Rogers
If you use Rogers as your internet service provider you will need to change a few settings when setting up your email. They don't support the default port (25) for outgoing smtp, so you will need to change it to 587 in the account setup within your email program. As well, the outgoing mail server (smtp server) name will need to change to smtp.broadband.rogers.com. The check box needs to be checked for "my server requires authentication", then click the settings box and use "Log on using:" and enter your Rogers id and password. If you don't know your id or password contact Rogers at 1 888 288 4663. Rogers has also implemented extra steps to try to help limit spam. You will need to make changes by logging into your Rogers/Yahoo account. The intructions for this step can be found on the Rogers website by clicking here.

Bell Sympatico
For Sympatico clients you will need to change the smtp server name. Bell has a number of them so if you don't know which one to use you will need to contact them to find out. The names generally take the format of smtp#.sympatico.ca, where the # varies. You can leave the default outgoing mail port (25).
