Is Your Web Site Working For You?
Many companies will spend a lot of time pouring over the content and images that will go onto their web site. They get their web design team to create the site and the next thing you know the web site is live to the public and the project is complete…. or is it?
After your web site launch the next step you should take is to ask some important questions. How is your site being found, how many people are visiting and what pages are important to them?
One way to help answer these questions is by using Google Analytics. During the production process your web site designer can help you implement Google Analytics which is a free service provided by Google. A simple piece of code is added to all of your web site pages, and when your web site goes live and people start to visit, statistics are collected and can be viewed in your own account that is accessible online.
A sample of some of the reports that you can get from Google Analytics includes the number of visitors to your site broken down by day, average time spent on your site, how people got to your web site and what pages they visited the most.
There are other reports and advanced tools available as well, however just in the few that were mentioned you can see the valuable information that can be collected. Whether or not you act upon these statistics and make changes to your site to see how you can increase your web site effectiveness, it is always nice to know how your web site is performing.
Naturally to get the most of your site it is recommended that you discuss your results with your web designer and brainstorm ideas on how to enhance your web presence and obtain even better statistics. After all you built your web site to be a strong business tool so why not make it work even harder for you?
